Press Release, 23 April 2024
The European funded SAFEWAVE project – Streamlining the Assessment of environmental effects of Wave Energy – has updated the MARENDATA, a data platform designed to provide instant access to marine renewable energy industry-specific information related to resource and impact assessment.
MARENDATA integrates data sets from various sites, providing scientifically robust data on the potential environmental effects of marine energy devices to support consenting and licensing processes. The platform is suitable for both technical and non-technical audiences, making it easy for stakeholders to access detailed information on a particular marine energy project or test site, as well as view data on one or multiple environmental parameters at different test centers.
Previously funded by other EU projects, including SOWFIA, WESE, and SeaWAVE, MARENDATA is now adding new data sets as part of the SafeWAVE initiative while keeping all previous data sets available online. The platform has also undergone major upgrades, with new features added and previous features reprogrammed for increased robustness.
These features include:
- Third party identity providers: Users now have the option to log in to MARENDATA using their existing Microsoft, Google, or Facebook accounts. This integration simplifies the login process, facilitating a smoother onboarding experience for new users.
- Database Triggers for Automatic Data Creation: To streamline data management, database triggers have been incorporated that automatically generate data within MARENDATA whenever new data is uploaded to the database.
- Integration of MARENDATA into the PRIMRE Portal: MARENDATA, has been seamlessly integrated into the Portal and Repository for Information on Marine Renewable Energy (PRIMRE) available at https://primre.org/. A deep link was made available from the primary endpoint, directing users to a specific dataset.
The new features are anticipated to significantly enhance the efficiency and usability of MARENDATA. It is anticipated that they will deliver substantial benefits to existing and new platform users.
“We are excited to update MARENDATA and provide the marine renewable energy industry with data from top R&D teams to support consenting and licensing processes,” said José Chambel Leitão, managing partner of Hidromod, a partner of the SAFEWAVE project. “Our platform is a valuable resource for technical and non-technical audiences, providing quick and easy access to critical information related to marine energy projects and test sites.”
