Biscay Marine Energy Platform SA (BiMEP), is a public company that was created in 2011 to construct, manage and operate the open sea test facilities. The principal promoter of BiMEP is the Basque Energy Board, EVE, owning the 91% of the company. The other 9% belongs to the Spanish Energy Agency, IDAE.
BiMEP provides research, testing and demonstration facilities for developers working in the field of ocean and floating offshore wind energy. Both prototypes and ancillary equipment can be installed in BiMEP’s real-conditions testing infrastructures and trialled prior to commercial development. The test area is connected to an onshore substation via four sub-sea cables, and data collection is made easy through a remote monitoring and control system set up in a nearby dedicated facility.
Asociación Centro Tecnológico Naval y del Mar (CTN) is an association of companies established in 2003 with the aim to improve the competitiveness of the overall marine and maritime sector through the development of new technological solutions and technology transfer. CTN members are SME’s; large-scale companies, Universities and Research Centres of the marine and maritime sectors. CTN is also a member of different maritime organizations and co-founder of the Spanish Maritime Cluster.
CTN encourages the integration of all the actors of the sector with the aim to improve the cooperation and collaboration among them, the search of new business opportunities, the preparation of new innovative solutions and the development of R&D projects. CTN has a wide experience in the development of R&D projects related to the assessment and monitoring of underwater noise. CTN is at present the technology partner in the field of underwater noise pollution of the main national actors on marine environment: the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, the Spanish General Directorate of Coastal and Marine Environment, the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO), the infrastructure of marine observation PLOCAN, the Sea Technology Centre and AZTI Technology Centre.
CTN has been the advisory body of the Ministry and the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) on the field of underwater noise pollution for the development of the marine strategies. In particular, CTN in collaboration with the IEO is responsible for the development of a proposal of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) Descriptor 11 (Underwater noise) follow-up program in relation to the marine strategies of the 5 Spanish marine subdivisions or areas and also collecting the data.
HIDROMOD MODELACAO EM ENGENHARIA LDA (HIDROMOD) is an SME (ISO 9001:2008 certified), established in 1992 as a high tech consultancy in the field of Computational Modelling of Aquatic Environments. It has a highly skilled team of professionals with Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees. HIDROMOD is working for more than 25 years, almost exclusively, in modelling and information managing tools having nowadays an accumulated experience gathered with the participation in more than 450 projects for clients all around the world in Europe, Africa, Asia and South America. In the framework of these projects HIDROMOD carried out studies on wave propagation, sediment transport by combined wave and current action, effluents dispersion, oil slicks transportation, floodplains delimitation, output evaluation of nutrients in watersheds, water quality in reservoirs, and urban hydraulics.
The core business of HIDROMOD is shaped by the realization that the use of models and information technologies, complemented with the implementation of monitoring systems, is presently recognized as the most efficient tool for decision support, representing an important added value both for designers and decision-makers. A relevant characteristic of HIDROMOD is the focus on innovation to assure the maintenance of high standards in the tools and approaches that uses. HIDROMOD maintains an almost continuous participation in multiple international R&D projects of which the following are but representative examples: INSEA, EcoManage, AQUASTRESS, INSEA, SCHEMA (EU FP6) and LENVIS, MYWATER, FIGARO (EU FP7), in SOWFIA (IEE) and ODYSSEA (EU H2020).
University College Cork (UCC) – is Ireland’s premier research university, with over 20,000 students. MaREI is the SFI Research Centre for Energy, Climate and Marine research and innovation, coordinated by the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) in University College Cork. The Centre comprises over 220 researchers focusing on defined global challenges such as the Energy transition, Climate Action and the Blue Economy. MaREI’s research capabilities cover a wide range of cross-cutting topics: marine renewable energy technologies; material and structures; observation and operations; coastal and marine systems; bioenergy; energy policy and modelling; and energy management. One key strength of MaREI is our ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, harnessing trans-disciplinary perspectives, and combining insights to allow a wide spectrum of research and development services. MaREI researchers have successfully lead and participate in a number of EU projects (MARINET2, SIMAtlantic, Marinerg-I, MARIBE, RiCORE etc.) and national projects (Climate Ireland, ObSERVE Aerial, and Navigate project on Ocean Law and Marine Governance).
Ecole Centrale de Nantes (ECN). SEM-REV is the first European site for multi-technology offshore testing that is connected to the grid. It has all the equipment – offshore and on land – to develop, test and improve energy recovery systems (mainly from wind and wave sources). It will play a decisive role in meeting the challenge of Marine Renewable Energy development in France. It is operated by the Research Laboratory in Hydrodynamics, Energetics and Atmospheric Environment (Centrale Nantes/CNRS), with the aim of helping industrialists develop new energy production capacities. Using the well-known expertise of Centrale Nantes in the scope of marine renewable energy, the strategy consists in building up a continuous and pragmatic approach to the testing of technologies, and offers the corresponding facilities and services from the initial proof of concept to the large scale verification of prototypes at sea. This tryptic «modeling / ocean tank experimentation / real conditions experimentation» is a unique accelerator of MRE technologies.

The simplicity of the Wello Penguin is the result of innovative work and practical engineering.
The Wello Penguin is a floating wave energy converter that works in harmony with the environment. The benefit of the Wello Penguin is based on the durable and easily to maintained design. All critical parts are placed inside the hull and they are not in contact with sea water.
GEPS Techno. Engineering company created in 2011, we develop and design innovative solutions to harvest marine energy, for offshore energy autonomy and for floating structures and ship stabilisation. Our offshore power platform (like WAVEPEARL) and passive anti-roll ship stabilizers (like SIRE and GSIRE) are already used by major maritime companies.
Our long marine experience has convinced ourself that human activities at sea development will increase over the oceans, that oceans are the real energy field for tomorrow, that marine environment demands the best of marine technology in terms of simplicity, reliability and ecosystem compliance and that the most effective solution for our customers to power platform cannot be single-source of energy but requires integration between multiple sources to achieve energy autonomy. By being attentive to the environment and taking the opposite of usual technologies, we are now developing solutions for tomorrow.
